Alison Giraud-Saunders, Consultant, Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities
Alison was recently appointed Consultant for the Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities, following her appointment as Co-Director in November 2003, where she lead the Foundation’s team alongside Co-Director Barbara McIntosh, developing proposals for new projects, and managing and delivering projects and consultancy contracts.
Alison’s particular areas of interest include initiating better opportunities for young people with learning disabilities, advocating ‘partnership with purpose’ between all those who can collaborate to improve life chances for people with learning disabilities, and promoting better health and access to health services for people with learning disabilities. Her publications focus on these themes.
Alison joined the Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities from the Institute for Applied Health and Social Policy at King’s College London. Previously she worked in the NHS in both commissioning and Trust roles, supporting the development of joint commissioning and person-centred services for people with learning disabilities and the involvement of self-advocates and family carers in this process. Alison has worked with health and social care services across England on organisational and service development, in line with the aims of “Valuing People”. She was seconded for three years part-time to the Valuing People Support Team as Regional Adviser for the West Midlands.
Alison holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and is a member of the Chartered Management Institute. She is a member of the Board and Chair of the Support Committee for Advance Housing and Support Ltd, member of the Valuing People Now Health Steering Group, member of the Care Quality Commission Learning Disability Advisory Board, member of the Tizard Learning Disability Review Advisory Board, and a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Learning Disabilities and Offending Behaviour.
In her spare time, Alison pursues her interest in gardening.
